CAS Blog Reflection 1

CAS Blog Learning Outcome 1: I have been playing on my school golf team for a while. I had a tournament in the middle of February where I was pretty confident going into since I had been doing well with my swing on the driving range. Throughout the tournament most of my shots were good. I had great contact on most of my full swing shots and my drives were good the entire day. The only issue was my decision making. There were times where my ball went into the forest. Instead of playing it safe and chipping the ball onto the fairway. I got too confident since my contact on my swings had been good so I would try to send the ball through the trees and directly onto the green. This would result in my golf ball not traveling as far or hitting a tree and ending up in a worse place. Although my full swing was good the whole day, my chipping was terrible. I would be next to the green in two shots but then I would top my ball when I would chip and the ball would go way past the hole. My score at the end of the tournament was extremely high and it shouldn’t have been. I was so confident in my swing that I didn’t think about my decision making and didn’t practice chipping before the tournament. This tournament taught me to play smarter golf instead of always trying to hit the ball as far as possible. I realized that I could have a great swing but make questionable decisions in my game that could impact my score. I also realized that the short game is the most important part of golf and this tournament caused me to practice my short game more than my actual swing.
